On the afternoon of April 28, the second "Teaching Café" seminar at Boya International College was held in Conference Room 114. Hosted by Guo Xiaoyu, Director of the International Curriculum Teaching and Research Office, foreign teacher Tyler delivered an in-depth sharing session on "Answering Techniques and Training Methods for Challenging IELTS Speaking Questions." Attendees included Vice Dean Yang Yanli, Assistant Dean Wang Linxi, IELTS Teaching and Research Director Luo Jin, other Chinese and foreign faculty members, and student representatives from international programs. Together, they explored strategies to tackle "strange questions" in the IELTS Speaking test. Assistant Dean Wang Linxi noted that examiners sometimes pose unexpected questions, such as "How to protect specific listed animals?" which left students struggling due to unfamiliarity with animal terminology. Student representative Zhou Lingru recalled being asked, "What type of flowers do you like?" Her lack of floral knowledge affected her exam performance.

Addressing these cases, Tyler deconstructed practical solutions:

1. Understand Intent, Break Mental Barriers: For questions like "coin collecting" or "differences in mirror usage," focus on assessing logical coherence. Use phrases like "I’m not sure, but I guess..." to transition before linking to real-life scenarios.

2. Expand Answers with Details: Take "animal protection" as an example. Use "examples + supplementary measures" (e.g., "community education, legislative oversight") to enrich responses.

3. Pivot Flexibly to Core Topics: If faced with unfamiliar subjects (e.g., "winter sports"), politely shift to related areas: "I’m more familiar with summer sports, such as..."

4. Simulate Timed Logic-Building: Conduct in-class timed drills to help students structure 2-3 coherent sentences within 15 seconds, prioritizing fluency over perfection.
